April 14, 2016 / Today Rite Aid Pharmacy announced it will open a new store on the ground floor of STRATA Flats at Four City Center, the luxury apartment complex at Seventh and Linden streets in Downtown Allentown. The new 12,000-square-foot drug store is now under construction and could be open by late August, Rite Aid spokeswoman Ashley Flower told The Morning Call. Flower said the store will be one of the first in the region with the company’s new “Genuine Wellbeing” format, which features a softer, more upscale design that is being rolled out nationwide.
“We always look for locations that make sense,” Flower said. “That one makes sense.”
A Fortune 500 company based in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Rite Aid brings another strong national brand to Downtown Allentown. Neighborhood office tenants, residents and visitors, as well as guests of the Renaissance Allentown Hotel that sits right across the street from the new location, will all benefit from having a pharmacy and a place to buy convenience goods on the PPL Center arena block. A valuable amenity that fills an important need for the entire surrounding neighborhood, Rite Aid is a welcome addition to the community, which includes the pharmacy’s future neighbors at Center Square Apartments, a senior living complex, on Seventh Street. From The Morning Call:
There will be no shortage of customers when the new pharmacy opens. Not only is it within hundreds of downtown homes that ring the arena district, but several senior high rises are within a few blocks and it sits beneath 170 apartments booked solid with millennial and empty nest tenants.
Rite Aid will join the growing community of merchants and restaurants that make up The Shops at City Center. Other recent additions include Gallery on the Walk, AlphaGraphics and Vince’s Cheesesteaks.
