Coming on the heels of the highly successful opening of grain., Downtown Allentown’s new modern American restaurant, co-owners Cristian Duarte and Morris Taylor have expanded their presence on Hamilton Street. Right next door to grain., they opened an upscale, craft beer bottle shop named Cork & Cage. The store joins the ever-expanding Shops at City Center community just in time for the holiday shopping season.
The name Cork & Cage is a hat tip to a time-honored tradition of beer brewing, where bottles are sealed with a cork and secured with a wire cage. These bottles are typically taller and give off an air of nostalgia and craftsmanship. Often such selections are special-issue beers with unique, inviting recipes. Duarte & Taylor are creating a similar vibe for their new carry-out beer store.
Duarte and Taylor, who also operate Bethlehem’s The Bayou Southern Kitchen & Bar, say the 875-square-foot store at 538 Hamilton St. will carry primarily six-packs of craft and select local varieties of beer. The shop will also carry a selection of delicious snacks and fun grain. merchandise.
“Pulling this all together will be the expertise behind the counter at Cork & Cage,” says Jarrett Laubach, City Center’s Leasing Manager. “I think part of what makes this shop so unique is the experience that the staff will share with their customers about all things beer, including things like brewing techniques and food-pairings.”
