February 16, 2016 / The preconstruction work on STRATA II, a 67-unit expansion of City Center Lehigh Valley‘s upscale residential complex STRATA Flats has officially started. The new building will be located at Sixth and Linden streets in Downtown Allentown. STRATA Flats, which opened in July 2015 with 170 luxury units, is now fully occupied with a waiting list of 60 names, prompting the new residential project. The $23 million building is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2017.
Designed by the architectural firm WRT with engineering work by T&M Assoicates, STRATA II will include one- and two-bedroom market-rate units identical to those at STRATA Flats. The five-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot building will provide such amenities as a game room, a movie theater room and a private courtyard. STRATA II residents will also have access to the amenities of STRATA Flats, which include a rooftop party deck, a fitness center and a community lounge. The buildings will share the 500-space Linden Street parking deck that will connect them. Like STRATA Flats’ entrance, the lobby of STRATA II will be on The ArtsWalk at City Center.
STRATA II will offer eight arts-related retail spaces on the first floor, including a co-op gallery with works from local artists. Cityline Construction is serving as project manager of the commercial component of the project. The storefronts will be along The ArtsWalk at City Center and on Sixth Street across from Miller Symphony Hall.
Harkins Builders, which received an Excellence in Construction Merit Award from Associated Builders and Contractors for STRATA Flats, is serving as general contractor for the new building. They will begin demolition of six vacant buildings on Sixth Street in about two weeks to clear the way for Strata II.
